I'm a thirty something year old Englishman resident in the UK that enjoys the infrequent dialogue with others about an assortment of dead people whom enjoyed varying degrees of success in the academic and philosophical community. This site was originally planned to hold summaries of discussions I had with others but as this never really happened I instead adopted it to become something else. These days it generally consists of notes, reworkings, essays or summaries of books I have read.
This blog essentially 'tracks' my journey through learning about an assortment of key figures in continental philosophy and psychology. To be clear my prejudice is mainly continental philosophy -in all it's questionably nebulous glory- although I will infrequently dip in and out of analytical philosophy and other topics of interest such as psychology. Each entry represents an essay I have written or a chapter of something I have read. Normally it's my own prejudicial interpretation of some idea and may very well be wrong. I generally avoid referencing because frankly I doubt the authors plan to complain about plagiarism (and if they object in person I'll consider changing my policy). That said I do make attribution in other ways.
I probably should include some paragraph blurbing about how the views and opinions expressed on this site are entirely my own. This would of course be outright lying outright given the purpose of this blog is the exploration of the thematic ideas found in a variety of dead folks life works. Instead I will settle with the resignation that some of the opinions are my own and the others belong to long dead human beings that likely held prejudicial opinions and ideas. Simply because I give credence to, or describe in detail an idea that might be offensive doesn't mean I respect or accept it or the individual concerned. The only way we can combat bad ideas is with good ideas so quit complaining and find your own corner of the internet.
My writing isn't academic [in the event this wasn't already painfully apparent] but amateur in the best sense; I don't make any money from this it's all done for the love of critical thought and philosophy rather than any beneficial purpose.
As a hint I tend to use square brackets "[ ... ]" to outline my own comments / thoughts elaborations. This isn't something I used in the beginning [only late 2017 onwards really] but it's helpful I think to distinguish between my interpretation and my comments. Where possible my ideas follow the structure of the original text but occasionally for coherence I restructure.
I hope this stuff is useful in some way, and if it's not? Well..that's just tough.
